I saw this photo and had to share...

 

Painting the edge of a door is the easiest way to add a pop of color in your space in under 10 minutes. Be bold and do something bright. Like really, really bright. Everyone is talking about neon these days, this is one way to jump on that bandwagon.

Off to go figure out which door in my apartment I'm going to do this to...

More, more, more from Atlanta! I found a beautiful weathered bench and dresser with a cream marble top from Gabby Home. Stunning. The cool mirrors were at Bliss Studio. A touch of gold.

Now that Christmas is over and New Years is just a few days away, we're in that weird period during the season when you're not sure when to take down the holiday decorations (or you're just too lazy after all that relaxing to do it so you put it off for awhile, like I do). The decor for New Years is pretty glitzy so you can still pull off white lights for awhile and keep up your standard winter decor (think anything without a red/green theme or Christmas characters). But, it'd be great to put up some decorations the day after Thanksgiving that you know will last you well into January or even further into the year.

I spent some time catching up on magazines and as I was flipping through the recent December 2011 issue of House & Home, I spotted the gold sea urchins that we sell here for $100/set and thought that they displayed them beautifully.They're the perfect accessory not only for the holiday season, but also for year round - they can add a touch of glamor to any space.

Ironically enough, we just got our order of them in today, talk about perfect timing.

 

I put a set up on the wall behind this uhhh-mazing headboard we had custom made (which is still for sale! $998, queen size, and there's extra fabric if you want to make a matching bedskirt). 

 Then I thought to switch it up and put the other set in the window, they make great desk accessories - think about using them to organize your mail and papers by sticking them between the metal sticks.

These are probably one of my favorite accessories we sell, so it's a bummer for me when they sell out so quickly! But they really do, so put your order in now here!

Decorating with blue & white...

Some of my happiest days are when I open my mailbox and find my favorite magazines sitting there just waiting to be poured over during my next free moment. The December/January issue of House Beautiful was the first one to catch my eye this morning. Take a look at the cover below...

 

A pretty neutral cover but I love the pops of blue, especially the blue and white porcelain. I saw that stool and thought it was the exact one we have in the store! Once I got to work I checked it out and realized we have a really similar one, but the scene is different and the colors are too. Good job, Kathryn, you're way off. I blame my blonde hair. Regardless, it's kinda close, right?

So that got me thinking about all of the blue and white porcelain kicking around this place, especially after I flipped through the spread on the cover house. It's pretty amazing. The abundance of blue and white porcelain acts as the common thread that ties the entire house together. The homeowners collection makes me think they could be borderline blue and white porcelain hoarders, in my opinion, but it definitely works for them. You should really pick up a copy of this issue, you won't regret it. Then, after you've flipped through the spread, you'll want some blue and white goodness for your own abode. That's where we come in.

We have a pair of these large ginger jar lamps that have a very similar landscape to the one painted on the stool on the cover, $480 each but so worth it. Email us to snag the two we have in the store.

(Please excuse the fact that it's sitting on the floor. They were sitting on these Derby side tables but they've been taken away on approval. Sidenote: blue and white lamps look really great on washed grey furniture).

friday at the shop...Idea Boards

These boards are for a new project I have been working on in Chicago.

These two rooms are located right next to each other.

The "blue room" will consist of two sofas facing each other as well as a long farm table where the children can spread out and do homework etc..

The gray room will be filled with bold patterns in monotone colors. This space will be a more sophisticated place to relax... filled with book shelves and cozy upholstery. It is a work in progress and I am very excited to see how it turns out... lots more to come!

stenciled walls...

This amazing bedroom was designed by our friend Joel over at Rethink Design. Love it! Notice the Number Four Eleven touches...bedding by Matouk (Meridian sheets with "jade" trim), organic blanket on the bed by Marcel Miller and the wall of gold mirrors.

Joel designed this template for the wall and stenciled it on with a gold sharpie! It looks just like wallpaper in the room. Genius.

for emilia...

My niece, Emilia, is moving into her own room next month. She's so excited and so am I to help her decorate! Here are some ideas we've been throwing out there...

on her way...

My mother-in-law is finally moving from North Carolina to Savannah next week! Now that both her children and grandchildren live here in Savannah, she had no choice but to come on down our way! She's moving into a great place downtown with super tall ceilings, exposed brick floors and nice big windows. Her place is only one block from Forsyth Park and two blocks from the shop on gorgeous Gaston Street, lined with oak trees and Spanish moss (don't worry, she's not the kind of mother-in-law that just pops in unexpected!).

So, the fun part begins of decorating. She's leaving behind a lot of her furniture...ready for a fresh and updated look. We're thinking a palette of white, camel and a soft blueish green will be pretty. A little light and beachy, but still sophisticated like a downtown Savannah home.

In the living room, she has a tuxedo style white Crate & Barrel sofa that she's bringing. We're going to add these pillows in the camel zebra print. The lamps are a soft white porcelain with a light tan silk shade. They're nice and tall, which is great for those high ceilings. The rattan side chairs may work just right. Maybe a starburst mirror and some prints above the sofa or a big gold mirror that reflects the view out the windows on the other side of the room. A natural seagrass area rug over the brick floors and a soft pale spa blue throw.




For the master bedroom, I think we'll use the same colors as the living room. Then she can switch out the pillows and throws if she wants too. She has a traditional four poster mahogany bed and highboy. She needs new linens, side table with a drawer and lamp. The room is small, so that's about all that can fit in there. I gave her some monogrammed white linen euro shams with that same blueish green color a few years ago, so that's our starting point. I think this vintage desk (it looks aqua in the picture, but it's lighter in person) could work perfectly as a dressing table with that French chair covered in linen. It has a handy drawer for all her stuff and is a little chippy, which I think will look good next to the formal bed. The ivory gourd lamp should be the perfect height for beside the bed. For the bedding, some natural linen pillows and an ivory silk boudoir pillow will look sharp and pull together the ivory of the lamp and linen in the side chair. The duvet cover is crisp white with a little trim of that blue color.

I'll keep you posted on our progress. I'll let you know what works and what doesn't!
